FAQ's
The team at Local Dental assures to treat not just the existing oral problems of your child but also make sure that these problems do not appear in the future.
Can my child get straighter teeth?
Perfect set of pearly whites is what anyone would want for their child. Hence, our own principal dentist at Local Dental, Dr Kritika Mehra, has dedicated her entire career to ensure that you don't have to travel anywhere to get this basic need satisfied, and just pay a visit to your nearest clinic. Visit our Orthodontics page to know all about this aspect of our pediatric dental care.
Why does fissure decay take place?
When a child gets his/her adult molars, often, they have deep fissures and pits. These areas of the teeth get food impacted deep into the fissures and pits, which makes it difficult to access and clean via toothbrushing. This is due to inability of the bristles to reach into the depths of the fissures and the pits and this ultimately leads to the decay.
How can one prevent fissure decay at an early age?
Fissure sealants are one of the most simplistic ways to fix these. After a thorough cleaning of the fissure, our team places an exceptionally fine liquid resin in these fissure patterns and seal them from future impaction of the food. Usually, this procedure does not involve any need for anesthetic.
What do you mean by space maintenance?
In case of early loss of a baby tooth, it is crucial to maintain the space for the future adult tooth. This is achieved with fabrication of the small metal device called a space maintainer. A space maintainer is custom made for your child in the dental laboratory and fitted on existing molar tooth without the need of any anesthesia.
What is the best way to instill good habits in a child?
Through good focus on education, via the use of media, props and simple to understand language, you and your child can feel empowered to avoid future issues. Having a thorough understanding of what is happening takes the fear of the unknown away and helps children get better at taking control of their oral health.
What is the Child Dental Benefit Schedule (CDBS) support?
The Australian Government encourages prevention of dental disease in children by providing CDBS support to the eligible families. The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a Medicare funded program providing dental care for eligible children for a range of services, including examinations, cleaning, x-rays, fillings, fissure sealants, extractions, and root canal therapy. Under the same, your child may be entitled to up to $1000 worth of dental treatment over a two-year period, if you receive the Family Tax Benefit Part A.
Do you cover the CDBS support?
Yes, we do cover the programme at every Local Dental clinic. You just need to register for the Child Dental Benefit Scheme, get approved and then provide proof of identity at the time of payment along with registration and eligibility details. However, CBDS does not cover orthodontics or cosmetic dental treatment.
Are there any Local Dental recommendations?
We always suggest that you should start getting your child’s teeth checked from the age of 2. Having regular 6 monthly check-ups for your child is paramount in preventing the diseases, having a good relationship between the child and the dentist as well as installation of good habits from an early age.
